The Second Vatican Council is the council of renewal that addressed the identity of the Church and her mission in the modern world. To mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Vatican II, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI called for the Year of Faith. The Holy Father invites the rest of us to refresh our knowledge of the teachings contained in the Vatican II documents.
On Christmas Day of 1961, the good Pope John XXIII convoked the Second Vatican Council. In His Apostolic constitution, he stated that welcoming from above an inner voice of our spirit, we thought the time now is ripe to offer the Catholic Church and the world the gift of a new ecumenical council.
